The Zeta Phi Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated has been a leader in its effort to serve Mississippi Valley State University through financial giving and student support. As we commemorate the 50th Anniversary of our chapter, it is our intent to exemplify the high ideals of our organization through increased donations and alumni giving. In honor of our esteemed founder, the Zeta Phi Chapter launched the Lawrence “Big Daddy” Sutton Endowed Scholarship Fund to support deserving students who aspire to seek higher education at “The Valley.”  The Lawrence “Big Daddy” Sutton Endowment Scholarship was initially launched in conjunction with Zeta Phi’s 40^th Anniversary with an initial investment of $25,000 with a current balance of $60,389.

The Lawrence “Big Daddy” Sutton Endowed Scholarship Fund was established to recognize the impact of Brother Lawrence Sutton’s years in education at Mississippi Valley State University. His selfless acts of giving and mentorship can be seen in the many lives he touched within and outside of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. The scholarships are awarded each year to deserving students based on an established, university-approved criteria that is merit based with consideration of financial need and support.

The impact of this endeavor is reflected in the faces of the many recipients that have been awarded the since its inception in 2009 . Our goal for Lawrence “Big Daddy” Sutton Endowment Scholarship in honor of Zeta Phi’s 50^th Anniversary is to raise an additional $50,000. In order to achieve this goal, we have planned the Zeta Phi 50th Anniversary Weekend to be held during MVSU Homecoming Weekend.  All Zeta Phi Lines are responsible for raising a minimum $1,000 for the Endowment Scholarship. Small lines of 5 or less are free to team up with other small lines.  We recommend that each line appoint a designated representative to lead this effort.  Registration for the 50th Anniversary is $ 169.00 for the full registration packet and $100.000 for the abbreviated packet.
